Winter Formal

About 2 months ago I was invited to go to Lakewood High's Winter Formal with a friend of mine from church. I have been friends with Rachel since we were like 3 years old so this was cool. We had a great time at the dance and also at Mimi's Cafe where we ate before we went.
A picture at the dance. I only saw the color once but the tux and dress colors matched perfectly.

Youth Scavenger Hunt
Starbucks Power Bands!!!
Last Saturday my youth group split up into 4 teams and headed out around the city of Downey to look for random items and take pictures of them with clues such as find hole #9(golf "n" Stuff), find CVS toilet paper, make a human pyramid in front of Sears and find a guy named bob at the Stonewood Mall(not as easy as it sounds). Oh yeah, and we got kicked out of CVS because they do not let you take pictures at thier store.
This is a guy named bob.

YES!!!-I made it!!!

I made the rank of Eagle earlier tonight. Only about 4-5% of boys in Boy Scouts reach this rank. It is highest rank possible in Scouting. Here is a link for what the requirements of Eagle are and what the rank is. We are planning for an Eagle Cout of Honor (a big party/ceremony) in late September or earlier October. Thanks to anyone that prayed or helped support me in any way.
Thanks-Ian

Star Wars: The Clone Wars Movie Review

It was not really like the other Star Wars movies and it did not have as big of a plot as the others but it was entertaining. The reason why it was different is because this was a kickoff for the TV series coming in October.
I thought the computer graphics were very cool. They are sharp edged but very detailed. The movie had some of the voices from the other movies but not all of them. They gave the clones and droids more personality. The droids are funny and dim-witted and many of the clones all have different haircuts (such as red mohawks and baldness) to tell them apart and they argue and laugh.
The movie is fine for kids but it is violent. There is no blood or cussing in the movie. I think that sadly this movie was better than Indiana Jones 4. I would give this movie 3 of 5 stars.

80's Night at Youth Group... and today
Last night we had an 80's Night at my youth group at church. I went out to the thrift store and found some pretty cool clothes. The outfit went something like this: Leather Jacket, black pants, white T-shirt that I drew on, a crazy tie, sunglasses, loose belt, punk hair, and, yes, black nail polish.

Aside from yesterday, I decided to dye my hair blue back in the beginning of the month and I finally got it done today.

The Dark Knight
It was pretty good. I don't think that it was really as good as they tried to make it to be though. The special effects were excellent(WAY better than Indiana Jones 4). This was darker than the first(hey its in the title) being like most action movie sequels like Spider-Man 3 and Prince Caspian. This was definitely not a kid movie. I highly recommend not taking your kid to see this movie. It was more gory than Star Wars III. Plus the Joker is just creepy. Heath Ledger did a good job but he, like the film, was not as good as they made it out to be. On a side note I also think that they have used him way too much in commercials and advertisements, using his death to make money. 4 of 5 stars.

Prayer....
I am going in for a Scoutmaster's conference tonight. This is the next to last thing I need to do until I get the highest award in scouting (Eagle Rank). Most scouts have not made it this far and if they do then they are almost 18 years old.
I am kinda nervous about this but I think I will pass, so If you guys could just pray for me tonight that would be cool.
Thanks-Ian

Hancock Movie Review

I saw this movie about a week ago. I was going to see Get Smart but I ended up seeing Hancock. First of all the movie stars one of my favorite actors-Will Smith.
The movie is basically about a Superhero who goes around reluctantly saving people in Los Angeles while damaging anything in his way and not caring. I can't exactly say much more than that or else it will spoil the movie. I thought that the movie was pretty funny but not one for kids. It had a lot of cussing(meant to be funny) in the movie and there is some blood.3 of 4 stars.

Narnia: Prince Caspian(Movie Review)

I just came back from the the movie theater seeing the movie The Chronicles of Narnia:Prince Caspian. The movie did go a little off from the book but all movies change books. I liked it anyway. The movie was way darker than the first and way more violent. In addition to all of this there was a lot more comical relief, mostly involving the children being young coming back to a kingdom that is 1300 years older. I really liked the movie but would not recommend it at for ages under 10.
On our way out I took a few photos with my sister of the High School Musical 3 (cardboard)cast.

Eagle Project days 1 and 2
I know I already posted a blog about day 1 but this entry from my journal has some more details and includes day 2 of my project.
Day 1
I was nervous the first day of my Eagle Project. It went alright in the end and is now finished though. Everything was purchased and ready to go. I woke up pretty early and immediately started getting ready. I got some donuts on the way to the church for the volunteers since it started so earl in the morning.
When we got at the church I set up some tables and chairs in the dining room I reserved and also set up a spot for eating and another half of the room for tools and furniture building. As I was setting up some signs outside my Eagle Project mentor, Roger Olson, arrived. As time went on scouts and adults came and I got them started on building furniture and scrubbing walls. While we let the baby room walls dry, I directed some boys to go outside and shampoo a rocking chair.
After the walls dried, we started painting the walls and ceiling. This is where is first problem came up. We had finished painting every wall except the brick one. The brick kept soaking up the primer that we put on it, so we were starting to run low. I was going to have my dad run out to the store and get more primer but I had him wait until we used all of the primer possible. We ended up having just enough. While the primer was being put on, a dimmer switch was also put on. I had an electrician named Don Blackwell who attends our church come in and help us install it.
Since it was about lunch time I bought some pizzas for all of the volunteers. After lunch we started painting the parts of the room where the primer had dried. By this point most of the younger boys had left and more of the older and more experienced boys came. When we finished painting we did a few touch-up spots and then started to clean up. At this time it was about 4:00 PM, making my project right on schedule.
Day 2
The next week started pretty much like the first one did except I was not as nervous. Instead I felt like I was forgetting something(I kinda was, I just didn't know that it was missing.....keep reading). Most of the boys in my troop were on a trip on Catalina Island but I still had enough help. That day was way more relaxed than the first and required a few wait times.
The project started out with figuring out the instructions for the blinds I purchased. One of the reasons we had problems was because we figured out that the blinds were missing a piece. Of course it was the piece that would attach it to the wall.
So my dad went to go search for L-brackets while the rest of us stayed and put together wall-mounted bookshelves, clocks, and some other random items. Mr Bravo (Who is my patrol advisor) got to my project right as my dad got back. Mr. Bravo was sort of working as my translator for the day to talk to the carpet professional (He has done the church's carpet in the past) who I bought carpet from and hired him to help us lay carpet. The thing was though, he did not speak much English, which is why I asked Mr. Bravo if he could help. When the carpet guy started setting up his tools, Mr. Bravo and my dad went out to go pick-up a 3-foot sandwich I ordered for the lunch.
The carpet guy had the boys help him edge the carpet and he said that where very helpful. After the carpet was done we finished on the blinds and soon Auntie Darla came with the blinds and valances she made for the project. We put up one of them but the other was put up later because of lack of brackets. In addition to picking up the brackets we also picked up floor moulding since it was not included in the carpeting. My dad put on the moulding and helped put up the curtain since everyone else left because it was about 5:00 PM. After cleaning up we took a few more photos and then went home to victoriously rest. The next day many people went in to see finished room and Pastor Kevin also signed his approval in my Eagle Project workbook.
Now I only need my Camping Merit Badge, meet with my scoutmaster, and then I need to pass the big, ultimate, ultra-deciding, inquisitive, fate-changing, intimidating meeting otherwise known as the Eagle Board of Review.

Eagle Project-Part 1
Day 1 of 2 is done of my Eagle Project! I had about 17 boys come in and volunteer their time for my project. These scouts varied from new scouts to older, more experienced Venture scouts. I also had a few adults come in and help out with the project. Some adults from the Troop came out of their way and just stopped by to help even though their boys could not make it.
Within a 7-hour time frame, I led them to build some furniture I bought with donations, while others primed and painted the walls, and yet more shampooed a rocking chair that was donated. We also installed a dimmer switch with help of Mr. Blackwell (An electrician who goes to my church). I have some pics posted here and the rest are in this album.. The next week is coming up fast. We will be installing carpet, blinds, curtians and valances.
